LifeServe Blood Center Opens NEW Mason City Donor Center

LifeServe Blood Center (formerly known as The Blood Center of Iowa) relocated its Mason City Donor Center to a new facility within Mason City.  The new Mason City Donor Center, located at 4700 Fourth St. SW in the shops in front of the Cinema West Movie Theater, opened November 15, 2011.  LifeServe Blood Center's previous Mason City Donor Center was located at 2410 Fourth St. SW.

LifeServe Blood Center is the sole provider of all blood and blood products to hospitals in the northern Iowa area.  In fact, more than 9,800 units of blood are collected annually in the region to support the area hospitals.  In addition to blood collection, the new facility will also house the organization’s blood distribution operation which ensures region hospitals receive blood products on a regular or as needed basis.  Additionally, the donor center will serve as a staging site for more than 300 mobile blood drives that take place in north Iowa each year.

The Blood Center of Iowa joined operations with Siouxland Community Blood Blood Bank in April, 2010 to become LifeServe Blood Center.  As one of the 15th largest blood centers in the country, LifeServe Blood Center provides bloodand blood products to more than 90 hospitals located across Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.  LifeServe is committed to providing premier service to volunteer blood donors and access to a safe, quality blood supply for hospitals and patients.  Eligible blood donors must be at least 16 years old, should weigh at least 120 pounds and should be in general good health.  For more information about blood donation or to schedule an appointment to donate blood, call 800.287.4903 or visit www.lifeservebloodcenter.org.
