LifeServe Breaks Ground on New Sioux City Facility
LifeServe Blood Center recently broke ground on their Sioux City facility located on Line Drive in Sioux City. The new blood center facility will house the center's fleet of vehicles, including the Bloodmobile Busses, and will also serve as a staging site for mobile blood drive operations (mobile blood collections the our organization). Blood donors who do not donate at a mobile blood donation location will continue to visit LifeServe's current Sioux City Donor Center located at 1019 Jones Street in Sioux City. Currently, the organization is the sole provider of all blood and blood products to hospitals in the Siouxland area. In fact, more than 41,000 units of blood are collected annually in the region to support the area hospitals.
LifeServe Blood Center employees roughly 100 employees that live in the Siouxland area. With expanding blood supply needs for hospitals in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota, LifeServe anticipates continued expansion and investment in the Siouxland area. Because of this potential growth and the desire to keep the operation based in Sioux City, LifeServe Blood Center was able to participate in the Targeted Jobs Withholding Tax Credit program sponsored by the Iowa Economic Development Authority to receive partial funding for the new $1 million dollar facility (funding through the withholding tax credits program is provided to organizations that make a qualifying investment of at least $500,000 within targeted urban renewal areas of selected cities).
Bloom Buildings Inc. has been selected as the general contractor for the building project. The following local sub-contractors have also been selected: Triple D Contracting, C.W. Suter Services, Foulk Bros. Plumbing & Heating, and Thompson Electric. Anticipated completion of the project is slated for January of 2013.
